Siding Color Trends for 2022
Jan 24, 2022From increased property value to improved energy efficiency, the benefits of installing new siding are varied and plentiful. “Aesthetically speaking, new siding has a direct impact on curb appeal, particularly with regards to color choice,” said Wendy Cline, J&B Construction owner.
Sherwin-Williams announced its 2022 color of the year – Evergreen Fog, which the company describes as, “Soothing, subtle, and a perfect shade to freshen up any space.” “As a result of this announcement, we can expect to see an influx of homeowners selecting green siding along with others capitalizing on additional home exterior color trends in honor of the New Year, including the incorporation of neutrals as well as darker hues,” Wendy said.
Evergreen Fog is characterized as a, “versatile and calming hue, a chameleon color of gorgeous green-meets-gray, with just a bit of blue,” according to Sherwin-Williams.com. The website also states, “It’s a simple but sophisticated wash of beautiful, organic color for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade.”
“Evergreen Fog is considered a lighter shade on the green color spectrum, which means it’s a highly versatile color that can be used to complement a broad range of color pallets,” said Wendy. Along with the color of the year, darker shades of green are also expected to be popular on home exteriors in 2022. Darker greens are particularly effective when combined with a black color palette as it gives a home a trendy, avant-garde feel that is both surprising and charming. “Alternatively, darker greens can also be matched with neutral colors, such as taupe or cream, to emit a more earthy, contemporary feel,” she said.
Pure, bright white has been a longtime classic color choice for home exteriors. It’s most often associated with farmhouse-style homes, but it has the capacity to dramatically improve the look and feel of nearly every home type. “Given its longstanding history in home design and versatility, it’s no wonder it served as inspiration for the next home exterior color trend in 2022 where homeowners are expected to gravitate towards off-whites or warmer shades of white,” said Wendy. “It’s clear Benjamin Moore’s 2022 Color Trends Palette is fueling this trend. In fact, the palette features a total of 14 hues – many of which are classified as neutral pastels. These include Collector’s Item, “a pink-tinged off-white,” Natural Linen, which, “provides just the right amount of rustic warmth and elegance,” and Steam, “ widely appealing white paint color that offers a clean yet soft look,” according to Benjamin Moore.com.
“Interestingly, the colors on the opposite end of the color spectrum, which include bolder, darker hues, are also expected to rise in popularity in the home exterior world during the coming year,” Wendy said. Achieving balance is the key to successfully incorporating a darker shade on your home’s exterior. “Whether you prefer a deep, cool shade of blue or a sophisticated, moody grey, you’ll want to ensure that the color you choose seamlessly aligns with its immediate surroundings,” she said. “Additionally, it’s helpful to incorporate lighter tones on a home’s trim or shutters to prevent the home from becoming overwhelmingly dark and gloomy. Different textures such as stone and wood can also be utilized to ensure your home’s exterior is welcoming.”
Selecting a color for your home’s siding can be a fun and rewarding experience, but it’s also important to give this decision the thoughtful consideration it deserves. Not only should a homeowner consider modern siding color trends, but they should also think about the style of their home as well as their neighbors’ homes and weigh that against their personal preferences. “The right color palette can truly enhance a home’s exterior and curb appeal for many years to come,” said Wendy.
