Increase Curb Appeal with a Refreshed Entry Door Look
Sep 08, 2023The front or entry door to a home can say much about its owner. It makes a statement about the personality of the owner and gives guests a hint of what might be inside. “We have seen a change in what customers want their front door to look like,” said Wendy Cline, co-owner of J & B Construction. “Years ago, the popular look was a traditional one, and now we see homeowners designing bold front doors that speak to their tastes and character.”
Wendy points to some of the top entry door trends J & B Construction has seen.
Glass Front Doors
“There’s a larger use of glass in newer doors,” Wendy said. “The glass ranges from the height of the full door to more inserts of glass.”
The advantage of glass doors is the ability for natural light to move through them. The sunshine will not only help with lighting, but it will also assist with heat during the winter. The brightness of the entryway will also make guests feel welcome.
A Pop of Color
A front door in a bright or unique color makes the home distinctive. The entry door color can match the windows or siding, or can be as different as you’d like.
“Colors affect our mood, and people are designing their doors around brighter color choices,” Wendy said. “Yellow creates optimism; red is an energetic color; and navy gives an air of sophistication. Black is also a popular front door color, as it gives the door a classic yet contemporary look.”
Steel or Fiberglass Materials
Front or entry door security is always important, and doors made from steel or fiberglass add an extra layer of security and durability. Both materials add value, as they are energy efficient and virtually unaffected by outside conditions.
“Some people are concerned that steel or fiberglass might take away from the traditional look of a front door,” she said. “These materials can be assembled to look familiar to a classic wooden door, or a wood finish can give the door an age-less feel.”
Open Concept
Popular in many homes is a larger entry way, using either double doors or a larger, single door. Like glass doors, this bigger entryway gives natural light a way into the home and is a beautiful addition to the structure.
“The entry way is the first feature your guests see,” Wendy said. “The larger doors create an inviting atmosphere when hosting others.”
